Internet Accessible Widgets provide an effective way for schools to proactively share information via other websites with students or teachers. A range of physical and digital resources can be curated from your library catalogue and shared with students via other websites, e.g., your school's learning management system. The curated information is referred to as a widget that can be presented in a variety of ways, e.g., a list, a carousel, or a narrative. Widgets are interactive and dynamic and provide an ideal way to "take your library to your students" to give them guidance for reading and research.
Internet Accessible Widgets
Note: LibPaths is a basic requirement for the creation of Internet Accessible Widgets. LibPaths is an optional subscription service that extends the functionality of Infiniti.
Editing tools allow you to create multiple portals and to create a column layout for the portlets you intend to display on each portal. Portlets are then created in each column and populated with information relevant to the target group. Each school has a Default Portal and all portals visible to a patron are displayed as tabs across the top of each patron's home page.
Patrons can see one or more portals as defined locally. For example a student patron could see a library portal and a class portal, while a teacher could be assigned to the library portal, a class portal and a staff portal.
Create An Internet Accessible Widget
Internet accessible widgets can be created in one of two places:
- LibPaths - widgets are created in LibPaths and remain in LibPaths associated with their respective portals. These widgets are copied into your Internet Accessible Widgets library from LibPaths and are edited from within LibPaths.
- Internet Accessible Widgets - are created here and are independent of LibPaths. These widgets are only available in the Internet Accessible Widgets library and are edited here.
Go to: Configure > Integrations > Internet Accessible Widgets
- Switch Internet Accessible Widgets.
- The list will display the library of current internet accessible widgets:
- Created in LibPaths - with a link back to the original in LibPaths widget.
- Created in Internet Accessible Widgets - these remain independent of LibPaths.
